About Us
David & Mary Tumulty

Rolling Stone Pens is a home based business that is owned and operated by David Tumulty. Mary is involved in the business as a "design consultant". She lets me know what kind of pens to make, if I did a good job, which pens she wants to keep for herself, etc. It has grown out of a hobby that was based in woodworking, but has morphed into turning wood and other materials into pens, bottle stoppers, and other items. It was initially started as a way to create gifts for my fellow workers as I was closing in on retirement. I wanted to make something special for each of them, and I had been looking at this hobby for a period of time prior to retirement. After that initial endeavor, I was hooked on making more. So here we are!
David's Background - I grew up in Springfield, Illinois and graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy (a long time ago). Having developed a penchant for flying during my last year of college, I enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served five years as a pilot flying C-141 and C-47 aircraft. It was during my first year of pilot training that I met Mary. There were few flying jobs when I separated from the USAF, so it was back the pharmacy world for the next 38 years. I eventually ended up in hospital pharmacy, where I was exposed to the world of computers and my eventual employment with Pyxis/Cardinal Health/Carefusion. It was from this last organization that I retired after 18 years.
I have been active in my church throughout my multiple careers, singing in choirs, men's choruses, and directing our handbell choir. Besides woodworking, I still enjoy flying light airplanes, playing with model railroads, cooking, and hiking in the great outdoors.
Mary's Background - Mary is a native Houstonian, graduated from Lamar HS, and then went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. There she met David who was in pilot training at Reese AFB and the rest, as they say, is history. During our first assignment in California, our son Matthew was born. When David's flying career was over, we moved back to Houston and over the next few years, another son Keith and a daughter Laura were born. We both got involved with our church, but Mary even more so. She eventually went back to school, obtaining her degree from St. Edward's University in Austin, TX and then becoming ordained as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. She has been on staff at several UM churches and is currently on staff at First United Methodist Church in Conroe, TX.
